With decades of experience across manufacturing, sustainability, and scaling businesses, the founding team combines deep category insight with execution capability.
Richard Naylor is the Founder and CEO of YUMI Sleep, with over 20 years’ experience at board level within the UK mattress and furniture industry.
He has held senior leadership roles across major manufacturers including Steinhoff UK, Hypnos, and Harrison Spinks, where he led product development, sustainability strategy, and commercial growth.
A recognised industry expert, Richard is a Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP), a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts (FRSA). His work focuses on rethinking product design to enable true circularity moving the mattress industry away from waste and towards long-term value for multi-stakeholders.
Richard conceived YUMI Sleep as a direct response to the systemic failures of the category bringing together design, sustainability, and commercial thinking to create a fundamentally better model.
Mark Chessman is Co-Founder of YUMI Sleep and a highly experienced business leader with a background in finance, operations, and executive leadership.
A qualified accountant by training, Mark has spent his career as a COO and CEO across both SME and PLC environments, often working in partnership with private equity investors to scale, transform, and optimise businesses.
He brings deep expertise in building high-performing organisations—from early-stage ventures through to mature, complex operations—combining financial discipline with strategic execution.
At YUMI, Mark is focused on translating the product vision into a scalable, commercially robust business, ensuring the company is structured for sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
